FreeFriday Morning Film Club 4 – The Secret Life of Bees
You are warmly invited to our next meeting of the Friday morning Film Club in the Margaret Aylward Centre. This month we will be showing the film ‘The Secret Life of Bees’.
Set in South Carolina during 1964, The Secret Life of Bees tells the story of 14year old white girl, Lily Owens, whose life has been shaped around the blurred memory of the afternoon her mother was killed. When Lily’s fierce-hearted “stand-in mother,” Rosaleen, insults three racists in town, they escape to Tiburon, South Carolina—a town that holds the secret to her mother’s past. Taken in by an eccentric trio of black beekeeping sisters, Lily finds refuge in their mesmerizing world of bees, honey, and the Black Madonna
Brenda works part time in the Margaret Aylward Centre after having worked as a teacher and civil servant for many years. Having tired of the office job, she decided to take a career break and go back to college to pursue a PhD. Having taken the advice of ‘research what you are passionate about’, she settled on the area of ecology and theology. ‘For far too long the Church has neglected to celebrate God’s creative role’, her hope is to redress this and to help us really see and consequently love, the first wondrous gift that God gave us.
